HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST CATALYTIC CONVERTER?

Catalytic converter, is the most important off-machine purification device installed in automobile exhaust system. It can transform harmful gases such as CO, HC and NOx from automobile exhaust into harmless carbon dioxide, water and nitrogen through oxidation and disoxidation. The three harmful gases are converted into harmless gas, so that the automobile exhaust can be purified.

Selection of Catalytic Converter

When choosing the catalytic converter for a vehicle, shoppers can get good results by considering the quality of the part, as well as all guarantees and contractual aspects of the warranty for this item. The catalytic converter is an important and complex vehicle part, a central part of the exhaust system.

Considerations For Using Catalytic Converter

Cars with catalytic converters must use unlead gasoline. Lead and sulfur in lead-containing gasoline greatly reduce the efficiency of the catalyst. Lead binds the catalyst and forms a shell that prevents the exhaust pollutants from arriving at and reacted with the catalyst in time. Therefore, the continuous use of lead-containing gasoline will gradually weaken or eliminate the catalytic conversion ability of the catalyst to waste gas.

When the catalytic converter works normally, the average internal temperature is as high as 816 degrees Celsius. When the temperature is higher, the catalyst will melt or decompose, thus reducing the operating life of the catalytic converter. Under abnormal working conditions, the exhaust gas entering the converter contains excessive HC and other compounds, which turn the catalytic converter into a catalytic furnace whose temperature is high enough to melt the catalyst. Even if the engine is in good condition, improper use of the engine will produce too high temperature. For example, a long time at idle is one of the worst working conditions to reduce the life of the catalytic converter. The longer the idle time, the more heat the engine produces than normal. Therefore, the engine with catalytic converter should not idle for more than 10 minutes at a time.

Inspection And Maintenance of Catalytic Converters

Inspection of catalytic converter: The contents of the inspection are as follows: Abnormal sound, which is usually caused by loosening of exhaust pipe joint, damage of catalytic converter, loosening or loss of catalyst replacement plug, etc. Whether there are cracks or shell flattening or other appearance damage. Whether there are catalyst particles in the exhaust tail pipe, which is a unique phenomenon of particle catalytic converter, if the particles are discharged, the stainless steel basket assembly filled with particles in the converter is broken. The appearance damage of catalytic converter or the discharge of particles from exhaust tail pipe means that the catalytic converter needs to be repaired or replaced.

Maintenance of catalytic converter: At present, there are many brands of catalytic converter, and the maintenance should be based on the specific brand. If the particle catalytic converters used by General Motors (GM) and American Motor Company (AMC) no longer reduce HC and CO emissions, you can re-add catalysts. However, the integrated catalytic converters used by Ford and Chrysler are unrepairable and must be replaced.
