EXHAUST PIPE

As we all known, the engine work needs to take in air, and the exhaust gas of the engine needs to be exhausted. And the pipe used to discharge the exhaust gas is the exhaust pipe

The Function of the Exhaust Pipe

The function of the exhaust pipe is not only to collect the exhaust gas after combustion of each cylinder, but also to discharge it through the exhaust pipe muffler. And it has the functions of purifying exhaust gas, reducing noise, reducing vibration, and controlling the power interval. It can also reduce the pressure on the exhaust system and makes the engine exhaust more smoothly.

The Working Principle of Exhaust Pipe

Generally speaking, the exhaust pipes used in automobiles are as follows: the exhaust manifold (usually cast iron) is installed on the cylinder head of the engine (after the exhaust valve) and then there is a metal hose for shock absorption (which is sealed inside), followed by a larger straight pipe. There is a muffler behind it. The muffler is a closed and hollow structure with an intake and an exhaust. There are many holes in the intake pipe inside the muffler, which reduces the airflow velocity from the engine into the muffler. A gas storage chamber is formed inside the muffler, and then the exhaust gas is discharged into the second muffler by another exhaust pipe. The principle is the same. After the second muffler, the exhaust gas will be discharged into the atmosphere, and the back pressure in the exhaust pipe is formed by the gas storage chamber of the muffler.

The Internal Structure of the Exhaust Pipe

The exhaust system parts include exhaust pipe, catalytic purifier, exhaust muffler and exhaust tailpipe.

Exhaust Pipe

On an EFI engine, an oxygen sensor is mounted on the exhaust pipe, which senses the oxygen molecule content in the exhaust and feeds it back to the electronic control unit (ECU) to determine the proportion of the mixture entering the engine.

Catalytic Purifier

The function of the catalytic converter is to purify the exhaust gas of the automobile by using a catalyst, and convert harmful substances in the exhaust gas into harmless substances. Catalytic exhaust gas purifiers are available in oxidized, double-bed, and ternary types, the most common of which is the ternary catalytic converter. The ternary catalytic converter has a very high purification efficiency and can purify most of the harmful substances. It is a standard device on modern cars and is suitable for unleaded gasoline fueled vehicles.

Exhaust Muffler

Inside the muffler, there are a series of partitions, chambers, holes and pipes. The function of the muffler is to use the reflection of sound waves to cancel each other, so that the sound energy is gradually weakened to isolate and attenuate the pulsating pressure generated by the exhaust valve each time it is opened. There is also an electronic muffler that intercepts the airflow pressure waveform from the exhaust pipe outlet, feeds it back to the computer and commands the speaker to produce an opposite wave of the same waveform to cancel each other out, thereby reducing noise.

Exhaust Tailpipe

Its function is to draw the exhaust gas out of the exhaust system car. There are two kinds of exhaust tail pipe, single exhaust and double exhaust. Generally, double exhaust is used for V-engine or large exhaust engine, and single exhaust is used for small exhaust vehicle.

The function of exhaust pipe is very powerful. The way to guarantee its function to delay decay is maintenance.
